Mindfulness and Peace Capacity among Students in Lebanon: Preregistration of a Cluster-Randomized Mixed-Methods Intervention Study
Author(s) / Creator(s)
Saleh, Riman
Abstract / Description
This preregistration describes a controlled mixed-methods intervention study examining the potential of mindfulness training to promote peace capacity among students in Lebanon. The study follows a stratified cluster-randomized design involving approximately 120 students aged 10–15 years from three schools. Within each school, classes are assigned to either an eight-session mindfulness intervention or an active Health Education control condition. Quantitative data are collected at baseline (T0), posttest (T1), and two-month follow-up (T2) using validated measures of social-emotional competence, anger regulation, empathy, perspective taking, tolerance, and mindfulness. Qualitative interviews with participating students complement the quantitative component and explore students’ experiences, perceived changes, transfer to everyday situations, and perceptions of the program. Given the small number of clusters, quantitative analyses follow an estimation-oriented approach, focusing on effect estimates and confidence intervals rather than significance testing. Quantitative and qualitative findings will be integrated through a joint display and meta-inference.
