Verfahrensdokumentation für GAINS: Goals Associated with Health Information Seeking

Abstract / Description

Der GAINS ist ein Forschungsinstrument, das die individuellen Ziele erfasst, die Personen verfolgen, wenn sie nach Gesundheitsinformationen suchen. Außerdem kann die Ausprägung eines allgemeinen Bedürfnisses nach Gesundheitsinformationen ermittelt werden. Nach der theoretischen Ableitung der vier relevantesten, nicht-redundanten Ziele der Suche nach Gesundheitsinformationen wurden 16 Items zu den diesen Zielen entsprechenden vier Skalen (1) Verstehen, (2) Handlungsplanung (4 Items), (3) Hoffnung und (4) Beruhigung konstruiert. Diese bilden die Gesamtskala (5) Allgemeines Informationsbedürfnis. Das Verfahren wurde psychometrisch überprüft. Reliabilität: In zwei unabhängigen Stichproben zeigte sich eine moderate bis sehr hohe interne Konsistenz der vier Skalen sowie der Gesamtskala mit Cronbachs Alpha = .68-.90 und Cronbachs Alpha = .74-.89. Validität: Die faktorielle Validität des Fragebogens konnte mit akzeptablen Modellfits in zwei unabhängigen Stichproben bestätigt werden. Theoriekonforme Korrelationen zwischen den einzelnen Skalen und Persönlichkeitsvariablen sowie situativen Variablen belegen die Konstruktvalidität.
The GAINS is a research instrument that measures the individual goals people pursue when searching for health information. In addition, the expression of a general need for health information can be determined. Following the theoretical derivation of the four most relevant, non-redundant objectives of the search for health information, 16 items were constructed on the four scales corresponding to these objectives: (1) Understanding, (2) Action Planning (3) Hope (4) Reassurance. These form the overall scale (5) General need for information. The procedure was tested psychometrically. Reliability: Two independent samples showed a moderate to very high internal consistency of the four scales as well as the overall scale with Cronbach's Alpha = .68-.90 and Cronbach's Alpha = .74-.89. Validity: The factorial validity of the questionnaire could be confirmed with acceptable model fits in two independent samples. Theoretical correlations between the individual scales and personality variables as well as situational variables prove the construct validity.
