Abstract / Description
The article seeks to integrate several sociological and psychological constructs that refer to the strength of social ties and to relationship closeness. Strength of a relationship between two people has been inferred from time spent in a relationship, intimacy in the relationship and similarity of partners. The psychometric properties of the designed Tie Strength Scale (TSS) have been tested on 554 dyads. Research shows that the higher is the intensity of all three components of the tie strength, the stronger closeness as measured by the existing IOS and URCS Scales. The study also confirmed that more distant acquaintanceships are characterized by lower tie strength and that social influence is stronger in relationships with higher tie strength.
