Abstract / Description

The Teachers’ Maths Anxiety classroom management programme was developed by Dr Flavia H. Santos from University College Dublin. The program was designed under the Arithmos Project funded by the Irish Research Council. It contains evidence-based info from scientific studies about what is mathematics anxiety, main symptoms and neurobiological markers, global data including demographics, moderators and mediators. It discusses in-depth when maths anxiety impacts maths performance and the cognitive mechanisms associated to maths anxiety, such as the working memory overload. The course considers the long term impact of maths anxiety, such as career choice and grades. Also addresses teachers' anxiety about teaching maths and its consequences on children's learning process. In the third section of the course, interventions are discussed in a multi-layered manner, considering children, classroom environment, teachers and clinical approaches.
